Practical Career Advice

CAREERS are basically for people who’ve graduated from college already. So choosing one’s course to take to college must not be a laughing matter. It must be chosen after a careful decision on the person’s part. As much as possible, his or her decision must be influenced by his or her parents or guardians, family and friends. But above all, the decision must be based on two major factors – the person must have a profound interest in the field of his chosen career and the career must be practical and can easily be found a job. It doesn’t mean that if a student lives in a mining town, he or she is forever destined to work in the mining industry. One can work overseas in a casino in Dubai or in a cruise ship in the Caribbean. This article attempts to dissect the thousands of careers available in the world today.
One of the most compelling professions especially in North America today is involved in the health sector. These health professions are meant for people who are really dedicated and serious in being diligent in this line of work. Health professions are after all for the benefit of the physiological well being of persons. Health must be of our utmost concentration if not our ultimate focus. Even among physicians, there are many fields which can not only be satisfying in terms of self-fulfillment but also financially rewarding as well. Consider being an adolescence pediatrician. Whether one is employed by the state government or by a private high school, the role of an adolescence pediatrician is to conduct yearly complete medical examinations for the thousands of high school students across the country. This role requires immense patience though as the lone adolescence pediatrician must scrutinize not just the physiological state of the student but also his or her mental state. After all, high school students are the most vulnerable among all demographic. Think Virginia Tech and think Columbine and one gets the picture. Of course, the adolescence pediatrician is assisted by a nurse. A nurse in the United States fetches about $2,500 a month. That’s already lucrative for him or her if she’s a foreign nurse who comes from a developing country like the Philippines. This is also one of the perks people from Third World countries enjoy when they are in developed countries. Most developed countries in the world accept foreigners to work. Brunei is another example. There’s an ongoing consortium among Southeast Asian governments to build a naval base there. Once the naval base comes into operation by 2008, civilian employees in the base will be paid at about the same amount.
But careers are not just for people who have graduated in college. There’s one Filipino that I know who works in Israel as a documentor of official business proceedings. The rate is pegged at a similar amount which was mentioned earlier. That Filipino doesn’t have any bachelor’s degree in college anyhow. Because of the opening of the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA), many Mexicans in Ciudad Juarez right across El Paso are given opportunities to work. Vis-à-vis the low cost of living in Mexico, these workers are given lucrative pay because they are working for multinational companies.
